Family Involvement

We believe family involvement is crucial to our mission of student academic success. Throughout the year, Tohono O’odham staff gives families opportunities to spend time with them at fundraisers, yearly events and school meetings.

The school year begins with a parent teacher orientation for students’ families. The staff welcomes those who want to visit the building, to see the layout and space offered to their children and to better understand the curriculum. We also provide training on the electronic learning management system that was recently implemented.

Staff always make parent-teacher nights a fun experience for everyone. Held twice a year (or once a semester), this event is a time for families to get one-on-one time with educators as well as enjoy dinner or snacks together, win raffle prizes and bond as a community. One-on-one appointments with teachers are welcome at any time.

With the implementation of the STEP program, students, teachers and parents are all learning the new technology. TOHS staff now offers parent education classes once a semester to help with the transition and explain everything offered through the parent portal of the education learning management system. TOHS offers more training on an individual basis if needed.

Tohono O’odham also celebrates holidays and invites the entire community. Each Thanksgiving, the kitchen staff cooks a delicious meal for everyone to enjoy together.

Parents are welcome to help plan bingo nights for the community fundraiser for the senior class trip. Bingo nights are new in the 2023-24 school year, and TOHS plans to have them a couple of times a year.
